This, right now, is your life.
I am constantly putting things off for the "right time." I do this with big things and small things. I will wait MONTHS for a movie to come out and then put off watching it for YEARS because it doesn't feel like the right time to have this cinematic experience. I'm positive that the only reason I actually have had any children is that I was successfully convinced that there is no such thing as a "right time" to have them.
I can't try to make homemade sourdough, I have a tiny, always messy apartment kitchen. We can't open your Volcano Eruption kit, the house is too messy to add another thing right now. I can't buy cute new clothes until I lose weight. I can't do X until Y. Over and over and over again.
Lately, I'm spending a lot of time and energy reminding myself "This, right now, is your life." My life isn't going to magically start and stop like a stopwatch when I'm healthy and financially stable and my house is perfectly clean and organized. I'm living my life right now! I've lived 32 years of it already! And how much of that time was spent choosing not to do things, not because I don't want to do them, but because it wasn't the right time? Way too much. My kids' lives are right now too. In 2 years my 2 year old won't be 2 anymore. Anything I want to do with this version of her has to be done now. Anything I want to do, I need to do now.
Nothing has made this more clear to me than the struggles I've had with my health in the last several years. I developed some very irritating chronic symptoms during and after my last pregnancy and I genuinely CAN'T do some of the things I want to do.
The perfect balm for I can't X until Y is just I can't X. Would love to. Can't do it.
It's really made the silliness of not doing those things before even more apparent. So now I'm doing them.
I'm running (walking) my first 5k this weekend. The me that completed Couch to 5K, was running 3–4 miles 5x per week, and STILL was waiting for who knows what - she would never. But I'm not that me anymore. I haven't jogged at all in over a year. But I'm going to do everything I can to get back to it. I'm walking it, and when it's over I'm going to sign up for another one as soon as possible and I'm going to keep signing up for them and trying to convince my body to be able to jog it. And one day I will. Because I'm not putting it off anymore.
This, right now, is my life. And I'm going to live it.
